What Brides Should Know About… Detail Photos

Recommended Time: 30 minutes

Palm Event Center Winter Wedding Caili Chung Photography

Details are usually the first thing I photograph on a wedding day. For the rest of the day, my priority will be on capturing the wonderful people present. But during detail photos time, I get to do justice to all the work you’ve put into making your wedding unique. I love pretty people, but I also really love pretty shoes 😉

Here are some potential items to gather. The more you bring, the better!!! And please have all these things in one place by the time I arrive, so I don’t have to interrupt last-minute preparations for help hunting things down.

  • The dress
  • A non-plastic hanger for the dress (photographs so much better!)
  • All rings
  • Bride’s shoes
  • All bride’s jewelry
  • Bride’s Bouquet
  • Spare flowers (requested from florist)
  • The vows
  • 2 copies of a wedding invitation + envelopes
  • Extra stamps/seals/pretty accessories related to how you sent out your invites
  • Any other pretty paper
  • Bridesmaid dresses
  • Any family heirlooms you’re incorporating
  • Watches
  • Bibles
  • Perfume bottles
  • Wedding day alcohol
  • Any gifts to/from family and friends wedding planning!

The thing that separates “good” detail photos from “great” ones are extra flowers.

These extra flowers should be requested from your florist. Your florist may charge for them, although this doesn’t happen for the majority of weddings.

If your floral arrangements are already near the getting ready space, but prior arrangements haven’t been made for extra flowers to get to me, I’ll usually go pull out 3 from the least conspicuous place I can find… But often I’ll be taking detail photos in a hotel/AirBnb and flowers are at the venue – in which case, I just have to go without. Which is still fine, but not optimal.
