Snowy, Winter Wedding at Needles Lodge, Snowbasin | Alex & Lauren

Photographing weddings in the Utah mountains — especially in winter — is my favorite kind of wedding. And Snowbasin’s Needles Lodge will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s my favorite wedding venue in Utah and where I got married a few years ago, so I love getting to go back.
Needles Lodge sits 8,700 feet above the valley with panoramic alpine views in every direction. Guests arrive by gondola (already iconic) and the entire experience has that cozy-mountain-luxe vibe. It never disappoints.
This Snowbasin winter wedding was everything I adore about snowy weddings: fresh powder, dramatic weather, and a couple who embraced the magic of the season with zero hesitation. Snow was actively falling during couples photos and throughout the ceremony — and Lauren did not wear a jacket. Meanwhile, guests and vendors were bundled in puffer coats and gloves and still shivering.
Lauren and Alex met in the summer of 2023 through a mutual friend. On an early date while driving down the canyon from Oktoberfest, Lauren scrolled through Alex’s Spotify playlist and decided he had good taste. Alex was immediately struck by Lauren’s grace, dry wit, and the fact that she’s always right. A painter turned software engineer with the mindset of a distance runner — adaptable, sharp, and in it for the long run.
Last ski season in March, during a powder day at Powder Mountain, Alex bent the knee. Lauren said yes — and then he made her go down her first black run. He helped her of course.
A special shoutout to Richie Steadman — hands down the best DJ and MC in Utah. Richie is the definition of a professional hype man in the most elegant and effortless way. He made the night feel organized, fun, and full of energy. A good MC makes a massive difference at weddings, and Richie is simply the best.
Lauren + Alex — thank you for letting me document your day. It was freezing and perfect.
