How & Why to Ask Guests to Keep Phones Down

Please please please ask your guests to turn off their phones during your wedding day. You’ll want to see their faces, not their iPhones. You can make this request somewhere on your wedding website, you can have a sign reminding guests near the ceremony space, and/or the person who asks guests to take their seats can announce it before the ceremony begins.

I highly recommend doing this for multiple reasons:

1. Your guests will be more present in the moment

While guests may first be taken aback that they can’t use their phones, they’re going to end up loving it. If they’re not glued to their phones all night, they’ll be able to really enjoy the moment, and maybe make a few new friends.

2. You don’t want spend most of your reception posing for iPhone pictures

Carve out time for (professional) friend photos instead so you aren’t repeatedly interrupted to smile for a selfie. Take care of all the images you want at one time! A great way to do this is to go around to all the tables during dinner. Or to have all the tables come up to the bride and groom’s table before grabbing their food.

3. You’ll still have gorgeous photos

You’re paying thousands of dollars for a wedding photographer (and a second shooter) for a reason.
