Alex & Ashley’s Japan-themed wedding at Hakone Gardens

Ashley and Alex have a mutual love of Japan and a mutual love of cats. They celebrated both on their wedding day.

They got married at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, a traditional Japanese Garden. All their flowers, from the bride’s bouquet to the boutonnieres, were origami prepared by the groom. Their centerpieces were various Pusheen stuffed animals. Their alcohol was sake. They had cat ears party favors for all their guests. They had songs playing from famous Japanese films. And their wedding hashtag was #ashleymeowiesalex

In addition, it was simply a beautiful day. The bride and groom have been together for nine years already, and during that time, they’ve lived in three different cities. My favorite thing Alex said was about how incredible and rare of an opportunity it was to bring together all important people in one place (until a gender reveal???) That happens to be my absolute favorite thing about weddings <3

Everyone was so sweet and welcoming. And everything was so well thought out and beautiful. It was amazing to see a wedding day, so obviously personalized to this amazing couple, come to life.
